- Learning process. Through art therapy, you will have the possibility to reorganize various elements of your experience, combining them in a different way and thus producing the new, which generates a unique self-knowledge.
Explore your creativity
Art therapy has the fundamental purpose of rescuing creativity in life. It is a creative process that enables you to start from what is given, from what is known, and reconfigures it through imagination.
The result is the materialization in reality, designing a new form or shape, which distinguishes itself in relation to the reality from which it started.
Contributing to your learning process
Art therapy will help you to deal with different questions and limits that life and business impose, transforming you into the artist of your own life. This is because art therapy enables you to perceive, figure out and reshape your relationships with yourself, and with others. Besides, it can also have a positive impact on your perception of the world.
Moreover, art also connects to our right brain hemisphere and our unconscious. The right hemisphere is responsible for the reaction we have when we realize something; it is where personal meaning resides. Through art, our right hemisphere externalizes what is hidden and complex. Being able to connect to our right hemisphere is important in transformational coaching.
Inner Journey
Art therapy is taken as a form of recognition for you, regardless of whether or not you have artistic training, allowing the projection of inner conflicts in visual forms. In this way, art therapy has been an effective tool for communication between the conscious and the unconscious.
Using art in our sessions is about using art as a way of expression and communication in your personal development journey. Neuroscience research suggests that using art heals us on a cognitive and surface level, as well as in a deeply emotional and sometimes unconscious way.
Your art piece will be used not to diagnose but to express your feeling and thoughts. You do not need to have previous experience, skill in the art, or be creative. Allow yourself to live the experience!
The method
We have developed a method that integrates art therapy into the coaching intervention. Some steps of an art therapy-based coaching session
- For the process, the coach will intervene through the use of limited words during the expressive process. The idea is to give you space so that you can feel free to express yourself as you wish
- You will be invited to express your feelings, situations, or questions you have. This expression will be through drawing, doodling, or painting
- After the end of the activities, when you feel ready, there will be a conversation between you and the coach. The aim is to better expose the subjective experiences
- In any case, even if you do not want to speak or share your experience, you will have already experienced something which effectively art therapy has greater therapeutic efficacy, such as: expressing, configuring, and materializing conflicts and affections.
Going further than regular drawing and painting, there are also various art therapy-related activities to be done during the coaching sessions. Examples are painting with music; painting with closed eyes (guided by feelings); painting with color blocks; drawing en plain air; making collages to represent quotes that describe an issue you have; drawing in the sand; and so on. The possibilities are limitless! We encourage you to enjoy the freedom and explore your creativity. There is no right or wrong. It is all about you!
